For the most part, living out here is really nice. There is a pleasant breeze off the fields, and the critters stay hidden during the day, which is the only time I could see them. However, all the animals and plants do attract something else:
I found this little bastard scurrying across the floor this morning, after I awoke from an impromptu nap. Sure, I've seen bigger at my old house, but that was DEEP in the woods. And this wasn't the first one I've seen - There were about five just hanging out in the kitchen when we moved in, plus one or two in each of the four closets, plus a couple in each of the two bathrooms. And you don't even want to venture into the basement, which was destroyed by the last tenants, and is full of cobwebs and holes and a musty smell.
Sooo, anyway. That little guy? I trapped him under a pint glass as he scurried across the floor. I'm undecided if I'm going to kill him, or let one of the cats. Cleo, who is the older, better behaved cat that I don't photograph as much because she is older and better behaved, has had her eye on it the entire day. I think I will indulge her and let her do the deed, and then toss the spider in the trash.
Ack! I hate spiders! I had some huge spiders at an old house that I lived in. I say, let the cat at 'em!
ReplyDelete@ Krista - This one is pretty big; probably about the size of a quarter, like the body. I easily saw it crawling on the floor several feet away from it on the couch.
ReplyDeleteSpiders didn't really bother me until I lived overseas. I had a couple of spider incidents that traumatized me so I say do what you will with that creepy little bastard!

i'm not really bothered about spiders in the UK they are nothing to ones overseas, in Australia they are huge and hairy errhhhh!
ReplyDeletebut i can never kill them, i know this sounds sad but i think they'll come back and haunt me or i'll get bad karma back ha ha
@ Empress - heh, It's nice to know I have your permission to dispose of them as I will! I'm normally OK with them, but my roommate is terrified of them, and I have a breaking point as well. Like, I don't need an Arachnophobia situation developing, where that monster breeds more huge-ass spiders.
ReplyDelete@ Princess - Awwww, what a softie! We don't have the nasty, poisonous spiders in most of the U.S. The black widows mostly stick to the despotic parts of the states, like along the Southern border and in the Dust Bowl.
ReplyDeleteEW! How can I erase this image from my head?!
ReplyDelete@ Jen - Prayer might help :) I did kill it though, no worries. You can sleep safely.
ReplyDeleteI cant tell just how big it is, can you hold like a pencil up to it before the cat kills it, it looks big, but like how big?
ReplyDelete*cries* Just reading this post almost put me in the rocking back and forth fetal position. I HATE me creepy crawlies.
ReplyDelete@ Queen - Well, it's dead now, haha. I threw it in the trash after killing it, and the bag is safely outside. I'd say the body was about the size of a quarter.
ReplyDelete@ Sadako - It's a bit ironic that you're such a big fan of Goosebumps then, you know.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what it is. Horror movies, books, TV shows, whatever...I'm fine with all that. But send me a real life bug, and I'm a mess!
ReplyDelete@ Sadako - Even ladybugs? They're cute!
ReplyDeleteWe-ell. I draw an exception for ladybugs. I did a project on them in 1st grade. They were the only bug I could tolerate.
ReplyDeleteEven butterflies skeeve me. When you get close they're just skeezy insects with pretty wings.
@ Sadako - I also find butterflies to be overrated, unless they're in Rivers Cuomo songs.
ReplyDeleteI'm terrified of spiders. I was raised in the country and we would get "Eight Legged Freaks" sized bastards and I nearly had a heart attack one time because I was face-to-face with a translucent spider.
ReplyDelete@ Christina - heh, We had those types (the huge ones) and they always scared the hell out of me as a kid. But luckily, I never got bit or anything.
