Buy My Crap: Destiny! GBA games! Bad PS2 and XBox games!

Another week, another inexplicable auction! If you're looking for some crappy, old Playstation 2 and XBox games, I've got some auctions for you. Plus, there are some semi-decent games involved too, like Mario Golf Advance, Destiny and Mario Party Advance.

As usual, I've given some of them stupid descriptions in an attempt to sell them. I'm particularly proud of my explanations for Brett and Raquel's Battlefield 2 and Vin Diesel's Wheelman. If you're interested in anything, my actual friends (presumably), let me know and I'd probably be willing to just send it to you if it doesn't sell.

I mean, look at the manliness and ruggedness of that sonnabitch. That's the sort of man you can really wind your watch to. Look at dem sunglasses.

Buy My Crap: One decent Wii game, and a bunch of old Gamecube, Xbox stuff

Look at this majestic cart!
As I am sometimes wont to do, I am selling a bunch of stuff that I’ve acquired from yard sales and other places over the past year or so. You can check out my eBay page here, and all of the items via the link in the upper right hand corner.

As usual, I’ve also provided humorous / overly realistic item descriptions in an attempt to move some of the stickier items. Such as, “Super Mario Bros. – Free bubble wrap!” and “Winter Games – Cart only! It stinks!” Both them items now have bids, so imma be $2.25 richer once they sell. I have gotten two questions about this Gamecube copy of Sims 2 Pets, with one guy very concerned about whether it would still work because it was a gift for his daughter. I had to resist the urge to respond, “It would probably be a good gift to signify to her that you don’t love her enough, since you’re purchasing a used, $0.99 decade-old Gamecube game for her.”

Anyway! If you’re interested in anything, just bid, although if it’s after the auctions are over and the items haven’t sold, I’d probably just be willing to send it to you as long as you pay for the shipping. (A couple bucks, since the vast majority are just discs, no boxes or manuals.)

p.s. The one decent game is New Super Mario Bros. for the Wii. Although Super Mario Bros. 2 is also decent, because it’s an NES cart, you basically need a fake NES system to actually play it.

Selling and shipping things, with friends and without

First things first: My friend and frequent blog contributor Danielle is selling some of her photography on Esty. You can access her store thingy here. You might know her Tag Team columns with me on nannying or Glee or our shared mutual love of South Park. Anyway, if you can, please support her.

Secondly, I have a bunch of my own stuff up for sale on eBay and Half.com right now. You can check out my crappy auctions for comics on eBay here and here. My Half.com site, which is no doubt more interesting to all of you out there, is accessible here. Bask in my combination of cheesy wrestling books and books from my childhood that I no longer read!

And finally, at least two readers glancing at this are going to be happy, because they have a little something-something coming to them in the mail:

Oh, la and LA! If you also have a site you sell things on, let me know, and I'll edit it into this entry. You can find Alison's blog, wherein she talks about young adult literature and how badly she needs a tan (but mostly the literature thing), here.

Buy My Crap: Ring of Hell an ineffective hit piece

In the bookstore last week, I was initially intrigued by Ring of Hell. By Matthew Randazzo V, it billed itself as an authoratative look at the sadistic business of pro wrestling, and what led to the downfall of "The Crippler" Chris Benoit. I flipped through it a bit at Barnes and Nobles, and since it was only $12, I took the plunge.

However, actually reading the book reveals it to be a pretty sub-par hit piece. Randazzo's background is as a true crime writer and historian, according to his Wiki page and the back of Ring of Hell, but the book is long on hyperbole and short on original reporting and facts.

I know this because I'm a wrestling geek. I'd estimate that 60 to 75 percent of the information in the book is recycled and slanted from other sources. This includes shoot interviews with Kevin Sullivan and Kevin Nash, information from Chris Jericho's much better book Around The World In Spandex, and various dirt sheet publications and books. Frankly, all of these individual sources of information are better than Randazzo's collection.

The main problem stems from his point of view and writing style, which oozes off of every page. Randazzo clearly detests the wrestling business. Now, this doesn't necessarily prevent him from writing a great wrestling book, but he injects the personal opinion into every paragraph. As a result, the entire text reads like an angry pulpit delivered by a preacher as opposed to well-researched material.

Frankly, the facts of the case speak for themselves. Benoit was a loner who was so obsessed with making it in professional wrestling, and so addled by concussions and other brain damage, that he never scaled back his own steroid usage despite watching his idols be turned into monsters and corpses. All of that is indisputable from the factual record, therefore, you don't need to embellish and demonize the wrestling business on every page.

Randazzo also has a severe problem with sourcing. At various points, he attacks Nash and Bobby Heenan, only to later rely on them as information sources. If you're going to tear at someone for being dishonest, it seems silly to then turnaround and use them as a source five pages later. Also, because of my knowledge of the source material, I know that Randazzo is picking and choosing what parts to use in his own text. He has no problems quoting Nash about drug usage, but then rips him apart for his booking, without any defense from Nash.

The book is at its best when it simply reports as opposed to moralizing. For example, it points out that Benoit was using steroids since he was 17 or 18, and it also detailed his path through the Hart Dungeon, Stampede Wrestling and New Japan before ending up in WCW and the WWF. All of this I found interesting, and it would have been better if I didn't have to pick at the good parts through seething hate.

With all that in mind... If you want to buy my copy, it is up on Half.com. The entry is here. Like with my past auctions, if you win, I'll throw in something small and silly as a bonus.

Buy My Crap - Littlest Pet Shop Beach Friends

So, I occasionally review video games. I had thought I sold this one months ago, but the guy / gal who won the auction never paid me, which is a problem. To clarify things, I have never even played this game - I got sent a pair to review, but the reviews were later pulled, but we were told we could keep the games. So, whatever! If you think you might be interested, or have some little siblings that might be, feel free to do as the title says and buy my crap. Surprisingly, it has gotten really good reviews on Amazon and Google. And to clarify, this is a game for the Nintendo DS.

If you want to buy my copy, my eBay auction is here. And as usual, if someone from here does buy it, I don't mind throwing in some other cheap-o game I have.

Buy My Crap - Bakugan for the Wii and The Book of Basketball by Bill Simmons

In an effort to shill more of the crap on eBay that I don't really need any more, I offer two things to you today: Bakugan for the Wii and The Book of Basketball by Bill Simmons.

- Let's start with the video game. Bakugan is a kind of Pokemon-like game that relies on you collecting and powering up cards. These cards allow you to throw a ball on to a playing area, with the goal to land two balls on an area to win that card, or to battle an opposing player for the card.

It's nothing groundbreaking, but if you have kids, they'll probably enjoy it. It is definitely aimed at kids from ages 8 to 15, as it has a very "Saturday morning anime cartoon" feel to it. You can find my eBay auction for it here. I'm also doing a review of it for Blast, and I'll link to that when it's done.

- On the contrary, I imagine quite a few people reading this are familiar with The Book of Basketball, the latest book from Bill Simmons. Some people love him and others hate him, but this entire book is basically about Simmons obsession with basketball, and especially NBA basketball. Given his encyclopedic knowledge on the subject, I think it reads a bit better than his day-to-day column work.

All that being said, I imagine I'll have a full review at some point in the future on this blog. You can find the eBay link here.

And as usual, if any of you buy my crap, let me know and I'll package some free crap in there for you. Crap, crap and crap, fun times!

Buy My Crap - CentSports.com

Although this isn't really something you can "buy" from me, I have been using CentSports.com lately. It is a kind of weird idea - They give you $0.10 to gamble with, which you can then use to pick games on their site. You can cash out when you hit $20, so it's not an immediate thing, but it's fun to screw around with.

If you want to try it out, use this link here, and then I get 5 percent of each win you make. Hopefully, you will become a degenerate gambler, and a winning one, and then I'll get rich by osmosis. I have no problem living off of your success, much like Paris Hilton.

Buy My Crap - Guitar Hero Van Halen

This is still one of the best usages of "Jump"

Hey, look at that - Something that isn't actually crap for sale by me! Try not to act surprised, but I'm putting my copy of Guitar Hero Van Halen up for sale because, honestly, I could use the money more than I'll play the game.

It was a tough decision though, because this is a shockingly well-made game. I don't mean shocking in the sense that a Guitar Hero game with Van Halen would be awesome; I think that's a no brainer. However, I enjoyed this game significantly more than Guitar Hero 5 and Rock Band The Beatles for a variety of reason, most of which I'll cover in a review for Blast that I'll link to later.

Anyway, the same offer I made for Spyborgs applies for this game. In the ultimate cheesiness move, if you want me to autograph the inside case, I totally will. Or, if you'd like to select from my library of crappy PS2, PSX, DC, SNES and NES games, I can whip up a list for you. Just send me an e-mail (sgre6768@gmail.com) when you win the auction so I know that it's you.

Edit: Bumped up to today, from yesterday, because I forgot to put the freakin' link to the eBay auction in yesterday. Doh!
